Background

Werner Spengler was born in Erfurt, Germany in 1910. Before the war, he was a clerk at the Erma-Werke manufacturing plant. He lived with his wife, Steffi, and their sons.

Service History

During the closing stages of the Stalingrad campaign, Spengler was wounded and evacuated, narrowly escaping the destruction of Infanterie-Regiment 211.

Following his recovery, he was promoted and returned to duty in early 1943, taking part in the reformation of the unit as Grenadier-Regiment 211.

Notes

A former clerk by trade, Spengler is often relied upon for administrative duties within the company office (Schreibstube). As a survivor of Stalingrad, he is regarded as a steady and experienced presence within the unit.
