Sanitätsdienste 171

Under 18 but older than 16? Are you a female that wants to get involved? Still want to get out there and reenact? We have a solution… First, a little history because that’s the main reason we’re here!

Infanterie Division 71 consisted of several units. These included, of course, the infantry regiments like GR211 that we reenact, but also field replacement units, recon, towed anti-tank and also medical units. What we’re focusing on today was the Sanitätsdienste 171.

The Sanitätsdienste 171 (Medical Services Battalion 171) consisted of two companies of medics, two companies of stretcherbearers/ambulances and a field hospital with a staff of surgeons and nurses.

Our lead medic, Sanitäts-Gefreiter Reinhard Müller , has begun reenacting 1./Sanitäts-Kompanie 171. This was the actual company of medics that was attached to Infanterie Division 71. Medics, or Sanitäter, from this company would have helped the wounded from all of the units attached to Infanterie Division 71, including Grenadier Regiment 211.

We also have some doctors and nurses who will reenact Feldlazarett 171, the field hospital. Check out and contribute to our Living History display!

Does being a medic sound interesting to you? If you’re not quite 18 yet, but over the age of 16, this can be a viable option for you to get involved in reenacting. You’ll wear most of the same gear as an infantryman, except you’ll have medical pouches instead of ammo pouches. You’ll have bandages instead of a rifle.

Choose below what category you might fit in! If you’re a female, you might be interested in becoming a nurse for our Field Hospital! We would love to invite you to become a member of Living History of Infanterie Division 71!
